Capiz Update 3 - Nov 15-16, 2010

Wolves becoming lambs: a group of men who came to disrupt one of the meetings took time to listen and left peacefully.

At left, Pastor Arman Salistre explains the Gospel to a small group after the message. In 1992, Pastor Arman and 3 other pastors joined their small house churches together into a movement they named Immanuel Christian Assembly. He has planted 6 more churches in the surrounding towns and there are now 30 congregations meeting in communities in Aklan, Capiz, and Iloilo provinces.

Capiz Update 2

Nov 12, Brgy Baye, Mambusao, Capiz. Bring your friends! This is the school bus in Brgy Baye, Mambusao - I missed the opportunity to get a shot of 8 on the motorbike! Mornings began with school assemblies, then kids brought their parents to evening meetings. This combination turned out to be a great way to bring the family to hear the Gospel during our recent trip to Capiz.

Connecting with Students

Oct 22-24 SOLD OUT College Retreat. The theme was Romans 12:1- Sold Out (to Jesus). It has been both refreshing and daunting to try to reconnect to the student world over the past few months at he University of the Philippines. Spending 3 days with 200 students on a retreat was enjoyable but tiring. It is exciting to witness God at work among them. Above right: our d-group at camp- Kenneth, Leonard, Janiel, Philip, me. Leonard, a 4th-year pre-med student, is learning to disciple his peers. Above left: Kenneth was among many baptized this weekend.

6th LPE National Congress on Evangelism

The League of Philippine Evangelists held our 6th National Congress on Evangelism this OCt 15-16 in Camp Jabez, Cavite. Dr. Cornelio Castillo challenged us with practical and passionate messages on "The Heart-Piercing Message" and "The Heart-Piercing Messenger." We also held a couple of short practical workshops, had excellent fellowship and networking and made initial plans for a combination training conference for evangelists and pastors and a saturation evangelism campaign in conjunction with the 7th National Congress on Evangelism in Eastern Samar in May 2011. Everyone was excited about this ambitious and timely plan. The doors for effective church planting in Eastern Samar are opening wide. We need to pray for laborers.

Home Court Advantage!

Chico St Outreach Friday Oct 8. This is less than a block form our house. 52 people, mostly high school/ college age, made decsionss to trust Christ. Youth from Lifegiver church have been actively visiting and encouraging them, inviting them to small group fellowships. We rejoice in the fruit and in the partnership in the Gospel!

Rejoicing with the angels!

Images from the Chico St Outreach Friday Oct 8. Four of Katie's playmates made a sincere, clear and joyful decision to trust Christ. If only for these 4 girls, it would have been well worth the effort. But there were many more! Reyza and Diane explaing the Gospel after the program.

Spiritual Battle

"We do not battle against flesh and blood, but against the powers..." But those powers touch flesh and blood near and dear to us. They know how to hit us where it hurts. Earlier today (Thursday Oct 7), the day before the community-wide evangelistic event here on home turf, Sam had a nasty fall at school and broke his arm. Please pray for complete healing. While I had the girls at home, Diane spent the last 5 hours with Sam in the ER. Often attacks come at crucial times. NO surprise anymore. During our last big event on Sept 24, Senen's daughter Cyril was hospitalized with Dengue fever. Senen was scheduled to be the speaker at the time. Please continue to pray for protection and healing for all and for victory in the outreach. Sam is doing OK now but will still need further treatment in the next few days to make further adjustment in the position of the bone. All is seemingly set for the outreach, but the battle has hardly begun.

Student Minstry: JZone Evangelistic Pizza Party

We partner with our church (CCF) to reach out to college students at the University of the Philippines. The student/youth ministry is known as "JZone". On Friday, Oct 1, JZone held an evangelistic pizza party just before final exam week for students from 4 local universities. About 75 attended. Yuklid Aboganda shared the Gospel, and many are being recruited for the upcoming JZone retreat "SOLD OUT" this Oct 22-24. Pray that we could deepen relationships with the students and see many developed as disciples of Jesus. "Every student a Jesus-zone."

Training Church Planters in Evangelism

In partnership with Mission Ministries Philippines (MMP), we have been training a church planting team in Payatas, Quezon City in open-air street evangelism. The team is headed by Pastor Ramir Sadang. Pastor Ramir and team have been enthusiastic so far with the new contacts generated this way, and have already begun training the youth to assist. The youth are excited to have a part in helping the church to grow and plant a daughter church. Here Pastor Ramir (who previously said he does not enjoy evangelism) is really enjoying himself preaching in the open air. He discovered unknown gifts! Praise God! Eventually we will be working with other MMP-sponsored teams in various squatter communities around Metro Manila.

Community-Wide Evangelism: Escopa

First Post Test

The Tripp family has served as missionaries with Training Evangelistic Leadership (TEL) in the Philippines since 1995. After 10 years based in Batangas City, Batangas, they are now based in Antipolo, Rizal, east of Manila. Mike serves as director of TEL Philippines, which currently has ministry teams in Batangas City, Lipa City, and Quezon City.

Mike and Diane are both from Louisville, KY USA.

Mike met Christ during his freshman year at the University of Louisville through the ministry of the Navigators.  During his early years in college, Mike received extensive help and training through the Navigator ministry and learned to share his faith and help others grow spiritually.  Diane came to Christ when she was 12 through a house prayer meeting.  She joined a youth group in high school and learned to love the Word of God and develop her relationship with the Lord.  She also received training through the Navigator ministry.  Later both Mike and Diane transferred to Eastern Kentucky University in Richmond, KY where they continued involvement in student ministry following graduation.

Later they served for a short time as volunteer Youth leaders with First Alliance Church of Richmond, KY before returning to Louisville and then moving to the Philippines.  Their home church is Southeast Christian Church of Louisville, KY.
TEL operates in six Asian nations. TEL focuses on personal and public evangelism and personal follow-up and discipleship. We offer training seminars in personal evangelism, personal follow-up and discipleship, and full-time training programs for those who are called as public evangelists.

Upon arrival in the Philippines in 1995, the Tripps moved to Batangas City, Batangas, where they spent their first year in language study, then began to reach out to local college students and in their community.  In 1998, we relocated to Tagaytay for 5 months of training under TEL International Director and founder Roy Robertson.  Following the training program, Mike joined with Senen Bandelaria and Fernando Garzon to form the TEL Philippines Mobile Gospel Team.  They traveled extensively across the nation over the next several years for open-air evangelism in cooperation with local churches.    They also hosted three live-in training programs for evangelists during these years in their home/ training base: June-Nov 1999, Jan-Sept 2002, and July 2004- May 2005.  In July 2006 they relocated to Antipolo, Rizal.

Currently Mike assists our Manila team with student ministry at the University of the Philippines, Diliman campus in Quezon City.  He is also responsible for staff development and networking with churches and ministries for cooperative outreach and training.
